Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus launching on December 7, TENAA reveals images and specs

Xiaomi’s upcoming Redmi series flagships Xiaomi Redmi and Redmi 5 Plus were previously leaked in a number of leaks including leaked images. Today, the Chinese company has announced that it will announce both the devices on December 7th in China in an official event. According to the company’s teasers, both the new Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus will feature an 18:9 aspect ratio displays. Redmi 5 has also received the TENAA approval confirming the specifications and images. At TENAA, there are two devices listed with model numbers MDT1 and MDE1 and both comes with 18:9 displays with similar designs like we saw in the leaked images of both  and both are expected to be the variants of Redmi 5 smartphone.

The TENAA listing reveals that the Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7-inch HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved glass display with 1440 × 720 pixels resolution and it will be powered by a 1.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 450 14nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU. It will have multiple variants with 2GB RAM + 16GB internal storage, 3GB RAM + 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage capacity with all supporting expandable storage up to 128GB with microSD card. It runs on Android 7.1.2 (Nougat) with MIUI 9 out of the box aand supports Hybrid Dual SIMs.

It features a 12-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with a 3200mAh battery and connectivity options includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. It also has a fingerprint sensor on the rear side and also comes with an infrared sensor. It measures 151.8 × 72.8 × 7.7mm and weights 157 grams. The bigger Redmi 5 Plus will feature a 5.99-inch full-HD+ 18:9 full view display with 2160×1080 pixels resolution. It has 64GB of inbuilt storage capacity and comes with a 4000mAh battery. The device has a 12-megapixel rear camera and it runs on the MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS out of the box. It will have hybrid dual SIM support.

According to TENAA, the Redmi 5 Plus will have a 5.9-inch TFT Full-HD+ display with a resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core processor that could be the MediaTek Helio P25 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 or 660. It will feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash and a 5-megapixel front facing camera. It will run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat and will be backed up by a 4,000mAh battery.

It will have two variants with 3GB RAM + 32GB inbuilt storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage capacity with both offering MicroSDvcard expandable storage up to 128GB storage. It comes with a fingerprint sensor and an infrared sensor as well. Connectivity options includes 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. It measures 158.5 x 75.45 x 8.05mm and weights 179.5 grams. It will be available with Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray and Silver color options.
