Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5 might receive an Android 8.0 Oreo update

It is not easy to see an Android phone that maintains the official support of updates for two years. However, it seems that Google wants to change that dubious tradition of its platform starting with its Pixel 2 smartphones, which it has promised up to three years of support with guaranteed updates until Android R. What if Samsung joins the update party?

Well, it would be great news without a doubt, users have long asked for better support for the software and fewer iterations without new features in the device and if Samsung moved safely, that would drag much of the industry with it. It is not official yet so do not get too excited, but it looks like Samsung could be preparing an Android 8.0 Oreo update for its 2015 high-end smartphones after delaying it too much.

According to T-Mobile support pages, the past flagship Samsung devices such as Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. The T-Mobile carrier support page says, ” “T-Mobile and the device manufacturer have agreed to support a new software update” along with the Android 8.0 Oreo suggested as the next major update for these devices thus confirming the update for these older Samsung flagships.

That means the Android 8.0 Oreo development is complete and now its the carrier’s turn to seed this update to these devices which might arrive no longer than next month, but we may have to wait a bit longer as the support pages don’t list any time frame for the Oreo update to arrive for these devices.

Samsung recently started rolling the stable Android 8.0 Oreo update for the flagships Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ devices in different regions and the update might be available for the Galaxy Note 8 as well in the coming days. Even one lucky Galaxy S7 Edge user received the update out of nowhere heating the rumours for the Oreo update arriving for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge device users in the coming days, of course, not before all the Galaxy S8 series and Note 8 flagships get it.

Even Samsung’s development team confirmed a few months back that the Galaxy S6 possibly wouldn’t end its life cycle on Android 7.0 Nougat which again raised the hopes of the Galaxy S6 series device owners. Stay tuned for more updates.
