Samsung Galaxy S6 gets June Security update in India, Still no Oreo

After three months long drought of three months, Samsung has finally rolled out the June security update to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones in India starting today. The update is currently available for the model number SM-G920I smartphone and will also be available for the other variants as well. The update is weighted at around 330MB and comes with the usual bug fixes and patch for the month of June. The build number of the device is now changed to DVU4FRF3 but still, there is no Oreo update and the new Samsung Experience UI for the device.

There are still some rumours online that Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge might get the Oreo update in the coming months but Samsung hasn’t yet confirmed the same. Last month, the company started rolling the Android Oreo 8.0 update to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge devices around the world along with the April Android security patch and Samsung Experience 9.0.

The update also comes up with the core changes, which include Samsung Knox 3.1 along with Knox API level 25 and TIMA 3.3.0. The update will also be rolled out to more newly launched Samsung Galaxy devices in the coming weeks. The Android Oreo update comes with new Android Oreo features that include features like Smart Autofill, battery improvements, Picture-in-Picture mode and others.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy S6 was launched in 2015 with a 5.1-inch Quad HD 577 PPI Super AMOLED display and 2560×1440 pixels resolution. It is powered by an octa-core (Quad 2.1GHz + Quad 1.5GHz) Exynos processor along with 3GB RAM and 32/64/128GB internal storage capacity variants and expandable MicroSD card storage as well.

It was launched with Android 5.0 (Lollipop) pre-installed and was carrying a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, OIS and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It has a 2,550mAh battery and supports 4G LTE / 3G HSPA+, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2X2 MIMO), Bluetooth 4.1 LE & apt-X, and NFC connectivity options. Other features include infrared LED for the smart TV remote, S Health, a Heart rate sensor and a fingerprint sensor as well. It measures 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8mm and weighs 138 grams.
