Xiaomi announces Mi 8 Pro and Mi 8 Lite with AI Dual rear camera

Chinese Xiaomi has announced two new smartphones today for the Chinese markets with the names Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. The flagship Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features an in-display fingerprint scanner and has an AI rear dual cameras. According to Xiaomi the in-display fingerprint scanner on the device unlocks the device faster once you place your finger on the screen, which is faster and more power-efficient and is 29% faster compared to the in-display fingerprint sensor on the Mi 8.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro is priced at 3199 yuan (around $466) for the 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage variant and 3599 yuan (around $525) for the 8GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage variant. It comes with Sunset Gold, Black and Transparent Titanium color options and is currently available for pre-orders in China. It will go on sale in the country from September 21st. The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is priced at 1399 yuan (around $204) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage option, 1699 yuan (around $248) for the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, and 1999 yuan (around $290) for the top-end 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage variant. It is currently available for pre-orders and will go on sale from September 25th in China with Aurora Blue, Sunset Gold and Midnight Black colour options.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro features the same 6.21-inch Full HD+ 18:7:9 AMOLED display with 600 nits brightness, 60000:1 contrast ratio, DCI-P3 colour gamut and 2248 × 1080 pixels similar to the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer. It is powered by a 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 64-bit 10nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 630 GPU and comes with 6GB / 8GB LPDDR4x RAM with 128GB inbuilt (UFS 2.1) storage. It runs on the Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI and supports Dual SIMs.

It has a dual rear camera with a 12-megapixel rear camera with 26mm wide-angle lens, 1/2.6″ Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 1.4µm pixel size, dual-tone LED flash, 4-axis OIS, Optical zoom, 4K video recording along with a secondary 12-megapixel rear camera with Samsung S5K3M3 sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.0µm pixel size, 2X zoom. It has a 20-megapixel front-facing camera with real-time AI portraits. It comes with a 3000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ fast charging and supports Dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac dual-band (2×2 MU-MIMO ), Bluetooth 5, Dual-frequency (L1+L5) GPS/GLONASS/Beidou, NFC, USB Type-C connectivity options. It comes with IR Face unlock and has an in-display pressure-sensitive fingerprint sensor. It measures 154.9×74.8×7.6mm and weighs 177 grams.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ 19:9 2.5D curved glass display,  1500:1 contrast ratio and 2280×1080 pixels resolution and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 660 14nm Mobile Platform (Quad 2.2GHz Kryo 260 + Quad 1.8GHz Kryo 260 CPUs) with Adreno 512 GPU. It comes with 4GB / 6GB LPDDR4x RAM with 64GB inbuilt storage and 6GB LPDDR4x RAM with 128GB of inbuilt storage. It runs on the Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI and supports Dual SIMs. It has a dual rear camera with a 12-megapixel camera with LED flash, Sony IMX363 sensor, 1.4μm pixel size, f/1.9 aperture along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera with Samsung S5K5E8, 1.12um pixel size. It has a 24-megapixel front-facing camera with Sony IMX576 sensor, 1.8um pixel size. It comes with a 3350mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and supports Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz) 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5 LE, GPS + GLONASS, USB Type-C connectivity options. It has a fingerprint sensor available on the rear side. It measures 156.4×75.8×7.5mm and weighs 169 grams.
