Samsung Galaxy S7 edge user receives Android 8.0 Oreo by mistake

While the users of the Galaxy S8, S8 + and Note8 are looking forward to the update to Android 8.0 Oreo, a user of the Galaxy S7 edge was surprised to see an OTA update message on his device in Vietnam. Looks like Samsung accidentally rolled out this update to the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone long before the final update is available for this device.

The update comes with firmware G935FXXU2ERB2 about version 8.0 of Android. Of course, this is not the definitive update, since Samsung is accustomed to updating, first, the most recent smartphones and therefore the first should be the high-end Galaxy smartphones launched in 2017 that are the Galaxy S8 and S8+ and the company has already started seeding the Oreo 8.0 update to the beta testers of the update in Germany.

The update rolled out for the Galaxy S7 Edge might be a testing OTA roll-out by the company and we can expect now that the update for the 2016 Galaxy S series flagship will be out not longer than next month. It may be a preliminary version of Android Oreo for the Galaxy S7 edge, which should not leave Samsung’s closed test channel, but it would have found a gap to escape to create confusion among the users of the Galaxy S7 Edge.

This is not the first time that Samsung is the protagonist of a similar case. Just a few months ago, a private beta of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Galaxy Note8 with a Snapdragon processor appeared on the network allowing its installation manually to all those who owned that smartphone.

At the moment, Samsung has not made public the date of the update of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge to Android Oreo, although thanks to this accident we know that the development is not stopped. Therefore, the owners of one of the two members of the Galaxy S7 family can breathe easy and wait for the expected update to land officially at their terminals. Check out the video that shows the Galaxy S7 Edge got the Oreo update.

To recall, the Galaxy S7 Edge was launched with a 5.5-inch QHD Super AMOLED display and is powered by Samsung’s octa-core Exynos 8890 SoC. It has 4GB of RAM and 32GB inbuilt storage capacity with up to 256GB expandable MicroSD card storage with the help of Hybrid Dual SIM. The Galaxy S7 Edge features a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, smart OIS and a 5-megapixel front camera with f/1.7 aperture. It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. It is backed up by a 3600mAh battery.
