Xiaomi Redmi S2 announced with dual rear cameras, Android 8.1 and Snapdragon 625

Xiaomi has announced the new Xiaomi Redmi S2 in the Redmi series in an official event in China today. The new Redmi S2 comes with a dual rear camera and has a similar design to the Redmi Note 5 Pro launched in February this year along with the Redmi Note 5 smartphone.

The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is priced at 999 yuan (around $156) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB inbuilt storage variant while the 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage variant is priced at 1299 yuan (around $204). The device is expected to be available outside China soon with some other brand name.

Redmi S2 Specifications

The new Redmi S2 features a 5.99-inch HD+ 18:9 2.5D curved glass display with 1000:1 contrast ratio, 450 nits (typ) Brightness, 70.8% NTSC colour gamut and 1440 × 720 pixels resolution and is powered by a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 14nm Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU. It comes with two variants with one having 3GB RAM + 32GB inbuilt storage while the second one having 4GB RAM + 64GB inbuilt storage and both supporting expandable storage up to 256GB with microSD card slot. It runs on the Android 8.1 (Oreo) with MIUI 9 out of the box. It supports Dual SIMs.

It features a dual rear camera with a 12-megapixel camera with LED Flash, 1.25μm pixel size, PDAF, and f/2.2 aperture along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera. It also comes with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash. It has a 3080mAh battery and connectivity options available are 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS + GLONASS. It has a fingerprint sensor on the rear side along with an infrared sensor. It measures 160.73 × 77.26 × 8.1mm and weighs 170 grams.
