Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A announced, Price, Specifications and more
Xiaomi has finally announced the new Redmi Note series device Redmi Note 5A in an official event in China but the company hasn’t launched the Redmi Note 5 smartphone in the event for which we may have to wait a bit longer. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is the successor to the Redmi Note 4A smartphone and it comes with upgraded features and design from its predecessors. As we have seen in its TENAA listing, it comes with two variants with different processors and a different fingerprint scanner in the design.

Redmi Note 5A Price
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A is priced at 699 yuan (around $104) for the Snapdragon 425 variant carrying 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage, the Redmi Note 5A with Snapdragon 435 processor and 3GB of RAM + 32GB inbuilt storage option is priced at 899 yuan (around $134), and at last, the octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor option with 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage is priced at 1199 yuan (around $180). The device will go on sale in China starting August 22nd while there is no information available about its global debut.
Redmi Note 5A Specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A features a metal unibody design and has a 5.5-inch HD display / 2.5D curved glass display with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution, 450 nits brightness, 1000: 1 Contrast ratio and 70% NTSC colour gamut. It is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425 Mobile Platform with Adreno 308 GPU / Snapdragon 435 with Adreno 505 GPU and comes with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM + 16GB/32GB/64GB internal storage options with all supporting expandable storage up to 128GB with microSD card.
It runs on Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) with MIUI 9 and supports Dual SIM with dedicated dual SIM slots. The low end-variant with Snapdragon 425 SoC comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and has a 5-megapixel front-facing camera with f/2.0 aperture. The high-end variant with Snapdragon 435 features a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with LED flash, OmniVision sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 76.4-degree wide-angle lens.
Both the variant is backed up by a 3080mAh battery and connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS / GLONASS. The low-end variant doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner but the high-end variant features a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel. Both come with an infrared sensor and it measures 153× 76.2 × 7.55mm and weighs 150 grams.
Redmi Note 5A TENAA
This device got the TENAA approval in China with model numbers MDE6S and MDE6 respectively. The TENAA listings revealed that one of the models comes with a fingerprint scanner on the rear panel and the other one doesn’t have any fingerprint scanner on the rear or front, which confirms that the fingerprint variant will be the Redmi Note 5 device while the other will be Redmi Note 5A. The TENAA listings have leaked out the specifications of the device with two different model numbers and have also leaked out the images of the device.
The TENAA listing for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with model number MDE6S confirms a 5.5-inch HD display with 1280 × 720 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core processor expected to be the Snapdragon 630 SoC. It comes with 3GB of RAM and has 32GB of internal storage capacity with expandable storage up to 128GB with the help of a MicroSD card. It runs on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out of the box and will support Hybrid dual SIMs.
It is powered by a 16-megapixel LED flash camera and a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. It is backed up by a 3000mAh battery and connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and others. A fingerprint scanner is available on the rear side. It measures 153.1 x 76.3 x 7.3 mm and weighs 150 grams. It comes with Black, rose gold, gold, white and gray colour options.
The TENAA listing for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5A with model number MDE6 comes with similar specifications to the above model but with a 1.4GHz quad-core processor which is Snapdragon 425 SoC. Other specifications are the same for both models.
